Industrial salicylic acid is a light pink to light brown crystalline powder, with no odor or slight sweetness. It turns spicy and remains unchanged in air. It can sublimate under normal pressure at temperatures above 76 ℃. Heating at atmospheric pressure can easily decarboxylate and form phenol and carbon dioxide. Its aqueous solution reacts acidic and turns purple with FeCl3. This product is slightly soluble in water, soluble in boiling water, easily soluble in ethanol or ether, and slightly soluble in chloroform. |
